Muscat: The Engineering Contracts Forum 2026, held this year under the theme 'Engineering Contracts: Between Reality and Aspiration,' has reviewed national efforts aimed at enhancing the efficiency of implementing projects in the Sultanate of Oman and developing the engineering contracts framework in line with global best practices, amid the accelerated expansion of strategic projects. The forum was inaugurated under the patronage of Nasr Hamoud Al Kindi, Secretary General of the Royal Court Affairs.

According to Oman News Agency, the forum was organized by the Oman Society of Engineers in partnership with the Projects, Tenders and Local Content Authority. The two-day forum has attracted wide regional and international participation and serves as a platform to foster knowledge exchange and mutual understanding among stakeholders involved in contracts and projects. It showcases global best practices in project delivery models, reviews legislative and regulatory frameworks, and advances claims and dispute resolution mechanisms, ultimately contributing to the development of a more efficient and flexible contractual system and ensuring the sustainability of project outcomes.

The forum is a specialized professional platform that anticipates future trends amid economic and technological shifts, focusing on project execution challenges, risk management mechanisms, and the allocation of contractual responsibilities. The first day's agenda featured several specialized scientific sessions highlighting key issues related to engineering contracts, including the foundations and current status of contracts in Oman, major challenges facing project execution such as delays, cost overruns, and poor coordination. Discussions also covered legal considerations, risk management, contract drafting, dispute resolution mechanisms, as well as project execution efficiency using modern models and global best practices.

The forum will also explore the future of engineering contracts, address turnkey contracts and their challenges in major projects, project financing, and commercial considerations. An open panel discussion will be held to address practical challenges and formulate actionable recommendations aimed at advancing the engineering contracts system. The forum has also featured interactive discussion sessions, offering participants broader opportunities for knowledge exchange and professional development.

This event reflects the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to enhancing project efficiency and achieving sustainability in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040 by supporting innovation, developing national competencies, and improving the business environment in the engineering sector.
