Sohar: A specialized forum titled "Transitioning to Renewable Energy: An Economic and Strategic Option for the Business Sector in Sohar" was organized today in the Wilayat of Sohar, North Al Batinah Governorate. The event was held under the auspices of Mohammed Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah, with the participation of representatives from government entities, the private sector, investors, and those interested in the energy sector.
According to Oman News Agency, the forum was organized by Global Chemicals and Maintenance Systems LLC in cooperation with Sohar Industrial City (Madayn), Majis Industrial Services Company, and LONGi Company. This initiative is part of supporting national directions aimed at promoting the use of renewable energy sources and achieving the targets of Oman Vision 2040 and net-zero carbon neutrality plans by 2050.
Eng. Abdullah Mohammed Al Lawati, Director General of Global Chemicals and Maintenance Systems LLC, stated that the meeting aims to raise awareness about the importance of transitioning toward renewable energy, review the latest technologies and innovative solutions in this field, discuss the associated investment opportunities and economic returns, and expand horizons for cooperation and partnership among various relevant entities.
He added that the forum attracted more than 50 industrial and commercial entities, seeking to enable participants to learn about successful experiences in the field of renewable energy and promote the adoption of sustainable solutions in industrial and commercial enterprises, thereby contributing to supporting economic and environmental development in North Al Batinah Governorate and the Sultanate of Oman in general.
The forum's program included a number of working papers and specialized sessions that addressed the reality of transitioning to renewable energy in the Sultanate of Oman, and the private sector's role in supporting sustainability efforts. In addition, discussions focused on the economic feasibility of renewable energy projects and their associated financing and investment models.
Participants also reviewed the latest applications of solar energy, wind energy, storage systems, and hybrid energy, as well as mechanisms for integrating them into industrial and commercial operations to enhance operational efficiency. Discussions included government policies, incentives, and regulatory frameworks that support investment in the renewable energy sector.
The event concluded with an interactive session that brought together representatives of companies, factories, investors, and service providers. During this session, expertise was exchanged and opportunities for future cooperation and partnerships were explored to support the transition toward clean energy and enhance sustainable development.
The forum witnessed the announcement of a community initiative to implement a solar energy plant at the building of Oman Association for Persons with Disabilities, Sohar Branch. This initiative is a partnership between Global Chemicals and Maintenance Systems LLC and LONGi Company, coordinated with the Office of the Governor of North Al Batinah, aiming to support the utilization of renewable energy solutions and enhance sustainable development efforts in the governorate.
