E-Shopping Forum Highlights Consumer Rights

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) today organized an e-commerce forum titled “E-commerce Amid Consumer Rights and Supplier Duties”. The forum was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, under the auspices of Eng. Omar Hamdan Al Ismaili, Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

According to Oman News Agency, the forum highlighted e-consumer rights, the duties and obligations of e-commerce licensees, e-commerce legislation, commercial fraud, and electronic fraud in the digital economy. The role of government institutions in the e-commerce experience was also discussed. The forum attracted many representatives from government and private establishments, as well as experts and specialists in e-commerce, who emphasized the importance of promoting a safe culture of e-commerce.

The event featured a visual introduction display, followed by a presentation on an e-shopping campaign by Dr. Munira Al Fikry, a media specialist at the CPA. An exhibition showcased the authority’s key electronic systems and applications related to e-shopping, and an opinion poll was launched to measure cognitive awareness.

On the sidelines, a public awareness campaign titled “Safe Shopping” was launched. This campaign aims to promote safe shopping practices in the digital environment, aligning with Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on economic development and technology-based sustainable strategies.

The forum is part of a series of activities coinciding with the ongoing ‘Safe Online Shopping Campaign’. This initiative seeks to raise community awareness, promote fair online shopping practices, and develop solutions to current challenges, ultimately building a digital future that caters to everyone’s needs and aspirations.
