Duqm Economic Forum 2025 Concludes with Emphasis on Innovation and Strategic Partnerships

Muscat: The proceedings of the 2nd Duqm Economic Forum concluded today.

According to Oman News Agency, the second and final day’s sessions covered topics such as ‘The Art of Agility: Manufacturing in a Fast-Paced World’, ‘Greenfield Development, Blue Sky Thinking: Duqm Urban Infrastructure Design’, and ‘The Smart Frontier: Positioning Duqm as a Leader in Future Ready Urbanisation’. Other discussions included ‘Talent Magnet: Live, Work and Play’ and ‘It Takes a Village: Empowering Communities Through Tourism Development’.

The sessions emphasized Oman’s leadership in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, sustainable tourism, and smart city development in line with Oman Vision 2040. Experts discussed the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, and data analytics in creating advanced manufacturing environments, as well as the evolving relationship between automation and human expertise.

Logistics discussions focused on Duqm’s strategic location, customs procedures, and infrastructure, which are integral to developing flexible, regionally integrated supply chains. It was highlighted how Omani companies are accelerating product development cycles to provide more precise and responsive solutions.

The Forum is noted as a key economic event for exploring strategic plans for the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, shaping its future both short and long term. Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of SEZAD, described Duqm as a fast-growing city and a hub for innovation. He highlighted the cumulative investment in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, exceeding RO 6.3 billion ($16.4 billion USD), reflecting global investor confidence.

Participants affirmed the promising investment opportunities in SEZAD. Masahiro Yoshimura of Sumitomo Corporation highlighted Duqm’s strategic location as a gateway linking Asia, Africa, and Europe. A strategic partnership agreement between Energy Development Oman and Sumitomo Corporation was also noted, particularly in the energy sector supply chain.

Manikandan from Delta Infra Logistics Company pointed out Duqm’s promising opportunities in AI and various industries, projecting substantial positive returns for Oman. The Forum, organized by OPAZ, remains a prominent platform for economic strategic planning and shaping the future of SEZAD.
