Dollar Steady as US-China Trade Tensions Ease

Washington: The dollar steadied today, as US President Donald Trump softened his tone on tariffs toward China, and hopes grew for a possible meeting with his Chinese counterpart, which gave a boost to expectations of easing tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

According to Oman News Agency, the euro remained below USD 1.16, trading at USD 1.1566. Meanwhile, the British pound experienced a slight decline of 0.06 percent to USD 1.3328. Similarly, the New Zealand dollar continued its downward trend, touching a six-month low at USD 0.57145.

The dollar index, which tracks the performance of the US currency against a basket of other currencies, saw a modest increase of 0.04 percent, reaching 99.34 points.

In other currency movements, the Australian dollar showed little change, standing at USD 0.6516. In contrast, the Japanese yen declined by 0.2 percent to 152.57 per dollar, indicating varied responses in the currency markets amid the evolving trade discussions between the US and China.
