Dollar Hits One-Week High as Middle East Turmoil Spurs Safe-Haven Demand

The us dollar climbed at the start of asian trading today:aven assets. The dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of major currencies, advanced 0.3 percent to 98.485 - its highest level since 13 April 2026 - recovering losses recorded at the end of last week.

According to Oman News Agency, the rally unfolded amid persistent US-Iran tensions, alongside developments in diplomatic talks and the detention of cargo vessels. The euro and sterling each fell 0.3 percent, while the dollar gained ground against the Japanese yen and the Chinese yuan. Risk-sensitive currencies, including the Australian and New Zealand dollars, retreated, as did cryptocurrencies.
