Tiwi: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has completed the execution of the breakwaters rehabilitation project in the Niyabat of Tiwi in the Wilayat of Sur, South A'Sharqiyah Governorate. This project enhances the readiness of the infrastructure for the fisheries sector and supports the safety and sustainability of maritime activities.
According to Oman News Agency, Eng. Abdulnoor Issa Al Balushi, Director of the Breakwaters Rehabilitation Project in the Niyabat of Tiwi, announced that the completion rate of the project has reached 100 percent, at a cost of approximately RO 2.9 million. He highlighted that the project aims to protect the coastline from the impact of strong waves and tidal phenomena, alongside upgrading the efficiency of the infrastructure for fishing and maritime mooring facilities.
He further explained that the rehabilitation works included protecting the breakwaters and improving maritime navigation, thereby enhancing the safety of fishermen and supporting the sustainability of marine resources. The project is part of Oman's broader efforts to develop the infrastructure of the fisheries sector and raise the efficiency of ports and coastal harbors across different governorates.
Al Balushi emphasized that the project is vital for supporting the fisheries sector and promoting sustainable development in coastal communities by providing a safe environment for fishermen. It facilitates the entry and exit of fishing boats, contributes to enhancing fisheries production, and stimulates economic activity in the region by supporting activities associated with the fisheries sector. Additionally, it expands investment opportunities, serving local community members, and offers greater protection for boats and marine equipment during varying climatic conditions.
He concluded that the project's strategic location in the Niyabat of Tiwi is significant due to the area's intense maritime activity and continuous fishing operations. This enhances its role in serving fishermen and coastal communities, achieving sustainable economic, social, and environmental returns.
