Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit met today in Cairo with United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini to address the pressing financial and logistical challenges confronting the agency.
During the meeting at the league’s headquarters, Lazzarini provided a comprehensive briefing on the situation of Palestinian refugees, particularly in the Gaza Strip, amid the ongoing Israeli military aggression, and in the West Bank, where Israeli attacks have escalated. He outlined the severe difficulties facing UNRWA, including the targeting of its headquarters and personnel by Israeli forces, as well as increasing efforts to disrupt the agency’s operations.
Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the Arab League’s unwavering support for UNRWA’s mission and its efforts to assist Palestinian refugees across its areas of operation. He stressed the critical importance of donor countries continuing to meet their financial commitments to the agency, especially give
n the precarious circumstances facing Palestinians today.
