APSR Issues Two Regulations for Risk Management in Electricity and Water Sector

Muscat: The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) recently issued two regulations: The first regulation deals with the management of risks and ensuring the regular flow of services in the electricity and water sector, while the second deals with the management of risks and ensuring the regular flow of services in the water and sanitation sector.

According to Oman News Agency, the regulations aim to enhance the ability of licensees to cope with potential risks and ensure their ability to provide regular services in the fields of electricity, water, and sanitation services at high rates of efficiency under different circumstances, including emergencies, natural disasters, cyber threats, and operational failures.

The most prominent terms provide for obliging the licensees to prepare an integrated system for risk management and ensuring the regular flow of services within a period not exceeding six months from the date of implementation of the regulations.

The regulations require licensees to develop comprehensive plans for dealing with risks, test these plans, update them periodically, and submit annual reports to the APSR. These reports should include risk assessments and the results and updates of related practices.
