AI Zone, Digital Triangle Project Unveiled at COMEX Exhibition

Muscat: The 34th edition of the COMEX Global Technology Exhibition, titled “COMEX 2025,” was inaugurated under the patronage of HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs. The event, organized by the Arab Data Analytics Company with support from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, is being held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center and will span four days. Key highlights include the announcement of projects aimed at boosting digital investment, such as the Digital Triangle Project, a Dedicated Artificial Intelligence Zone, and the Green AI Alliance initiative. Agreements totaling RO 42 million were signed during the exhibition.

According to Oman News Agency, the exhibition also witnessed Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) signing five agreements and strategic memoranda of understanding with local and international partners, focusing on Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and digital transformation. Additionally, the “Tajawob” platform’s electronic application was launched, allowing community members to interact directly with over 55 government institutions in a simplified and transparent manner.

The exhibition hosts over 140 tech startups and more than 200 government and private entities, alongside international delegations showcasing the latest technologies and electronic services. This reflects the significant interest in the technology sector. The event aims to offer investment and advisory opportunities in data governance, develop policies for data management, and build national capacities in data analytics using artificial intelligence.

Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, emphasized the ministry’s support for COMEX in achieving “Oman Vision 2040’s” digital economy goals, particularly in AI and data analytics. He highlighted the Omani language model “Mu’een” as a pioneering national AI project.

Dr. Ali Amer Al Shethani, Undersecretary of the Ministry, announced technological projects to be launched during “COMEX 2025,” including new services on the Unified Digital Services Portal and the National Open Data Portal. He introduced the region’s first Green AI Alliance, supporting AI development while preserving the environment, and the Dedicated AI Zone in Muscat, aimed at attracting AI startups and supporting institutions.

Dr. Al Shethani detailed the Digital Triangle Project, a national initiative to develop interconnected digital zones in Barka, Duqm, and Sur, serving as a regional gateway for cloud computing and AI services. The project focuses on green data centers and connectivity infrastructure.

Prof. Abdullah Baabood, CEO of the Arab Data Analytics Company, credited the Ministry’s continuous support for elevating COMEX’s prominence. Eng. Alaa Abdullah Bait Fadel, Chief Commercial Officer of Omantel, highlighted the company’s focus on modern technologies in cybersecurity and healthcare services during the exhibition.

The event features various sections, including the E-Government Pavilion, Business Pavilion, Tech Startups Pavilion, and more. “COMEX 2025” also includes COMEX Awards, COMEX Summit, workshops, interactive experiences, and e-gaming competitions.
