112 Migrants Rescued Off Libyan Coast by Ocean Viking

Muscat: The Ocean Viking rescue ship, chartered by the non-governmental organization SOS Mediterranee, rescued 112 migrants in the Mediterranean Sea off the Libyan coast. The operation involved two separate rescue missions conducted by the ship.

According to Oman News Agency, the organization stated that the ship initially assisted a fiberglass boat and rescued 25 migrants, including three women. Following this, the ship rescued an additional 87 migrants from a wooden boat, working in coordination with the Italian authorities. The rescued individuals represented various nationalities.

The ship is now en route to Livorno in Tuscany, which was designated as the port of arrival by Italian authorities. This port is located over a thousand kilometers from the rescue area.

According to the latest figures issued by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 129 people have died in the Mediterranean Sea since the beginning of the year 2025 while attempting to reach Europe. The previous year, 2024, saw 2,3
